My Oh My | Draco Malfoy one shot
Request: yes! @leydileyla (I would like to request a Draco Malfoy fic, with a Female Hufflepuff Reader (you don't need to specify Hufflepuff if you don't feel like it goes with the story) with the prompt,2. Take another step, and I can’t be responsible for my actions.Maybe it could be something like, they could have been flirting for a while and both sides feel like they are hitting their boiling point )
Word count: 3,205 words
Warning: drinking (just a tiny)
Pairing: Draco Malfoy x Hufflepuff!reader
Note: This was a requests from the prompt list. Used prompt: “Take another step, and I can’t be responsible for my actions”
They say he likes a good time
He comes alive at midnight
My mama doesn't trust him
He's only here for one thing
But (so am I)
The dungeons. The Slytherin Common Room was located there. A place for the cunning, ambitious, determined and resourceful wizards and witches. And of course the kingdom of the Slytherin Prince, Draco Lucius Malfoy. He was mysterious as the night, but oh Merlin, he was the most alive during the dark hours of the day. He really knew how to have fun and how to throw the best Common Room Parties without the professors or Filch founding out. Those parties were the topic of every conversation. Students were talking about how the Slytherins managed to sneak snacks and alcohol to their Common Room, and how clever they were to use the Muffliato Charm, so the loud music wouldn’t be heard from outside. But the most interesting and exciting part of those parties was the way students from other Houses were invited. Not so many people had the privilege to be good friends with a Slytherin, due to their struggles with trust, but that didn’t mean they refused to have some fun time with their fellow school mates. You could only enter the party, if a Slytherin invited you. They would leave a note in your book, on your desk before class or sneak it into your bag with the exact details and the password. That’s how Y/N was invited. Hufflepuffs and Slytherins were at the same Transfiguration class, and one Monday, when Draco Malfoy passed her desk, he dropped a piece of parchment. She bent down to pick up the folded note and give it back to him, but she saw her name on the middle of it, written in neat handwriting.
Beautiful, come to our party this Friday, 10 at night. Bring only one FEMALE friend if you want. The password is serpent. I’ll be expecting you - Malfoy
That was the beginning of a beautiful flirtationship with the Slytherin bad boy. That night, Draco never approached Y/N, but he was always around her, glancing at her while I was talking to our school mates, staring at her while she was dancing with Pansy on the tables. After that party, it was hot glances at each other during class. Draco couldn’t kept his eyes off her, and after a while, it wasn’t enough for him. For some strange reasons, he wanted to be as close to the Hufflepuff girl as possible, so he made her House mate move from next to her and sat by her side during classes. Draco would greet her with a compliment, and Y/N would wink at him in response. The small nice gestures and words soon turned into more. She would stroke her hand along his back as she passed him in the corridors. Draco would touch her hand secretly while they were chatting with friends. He never hid how he was feeling about her, and wasn’t afraid to threaten anyone who tried to approach the subject of his admiration. The flirting between the youngsters was something that couldn’t stay unnoticed by anyone.
“Who is the boy?” Her mother would ask when she was back at home for Christmas. She kept receiving owls with litters and small parcels with her name on top of them. Same neat handwriting. She would smile brightly and even blush while reading the shorter or longer notes attached to her gifts from Malfoy.
“It’s probably still Draco” Y/N’s sister groaned and with an annoyed expression on her face, she shoo away the owl. She didn’t like the idea of her sister being involved with someone who was mostly famous for his jerk behaviour and the idea he was brought up in. In her eyes, Draco Malfoy was the devil himself. She wanted to hex him just because he would breathe around her. Of course she didn’t want Y/N to get hurt or being used by him.
“Draco? As in Narcissa and Lucius Malfoy’s son?” Their mother looked up from her book and her kind eyes focused on her youngest child. She knew that family and heard enough about their shady businesses and arrogant behaviour “I don’t trust him, darling” she shook her head disapprovingly.
“You know he likes to sleep around and mess with girls, right?” Her sister asked, but Y/N shut their voices out. Of course she heard about his reputation, and even saw him throwing girls away from one day to another, but that was what pulled her in. She wanted his taste. Maybe he wanted only one thing, but so did she.
A little bit older
A black leather jacket
A bad reputation
Draco Lucius Malfoy. Everyone knew who he was. Everyone knew about his reputation at Hogwarts. And of course, everyone warned her about him. He had everything that a girl could wish for in a guy. He was tall and strong. He was hard to get and a total twat. He bullied everyone who wasn’t good enough in his eyes and he never regret it. But he had the most beautiful pair of stormy blue eyes with the slightest hint of baby blue in them. And that damn smirk that could make a girl faint. He was just a few months older, but his features made him look much mature. Y/N always found herself staring at him when he wasn’t by her side, just admiring the man he was. After a while, Draco would feel someone watching him, and would look for the person, secretly hoping it was the girl who he wanted so badly. He could have made her his fully, but they loved and lived for their little cat and mouth game. The bickering and flirting entertained not only the two of them, but everyone around them.
“Bite me” Y/N said to the blonde bloke towering over her body. She couldn’t tell anymore what they were arguing about, she just wanted to push his bottoms and see when he would snap. Her remark made Draco smile at her darkly, and leaned in, dangerously close to her face.
“Where, princess?” His was deepened and he bit his bottom lip. A tiny gasp left her lips and he knew he won this round “You thought you were so badass, but then you met me”
“You think too highly of yourself” she rolled her eyes and pushed him away. Draco sat back next to her on the bench and put his hand on her thigh, softly stroking her soft skin with his thumb.
“Am I not everything you wanted?” He asked with raised eyebrows, and he sneaked his hand up a little higher. They crossed the line of innocent flirting a long time ago. Y/N and Draco were basically on fire when they were just simply in the same room, yet alone sitting next to each other.
“I wanted a little less arrogance” she pushed his hand away and stood up, grabbing her back from the ground and walking away with a huge smile on her face. She loved the affect she had on the Slytherin boy, and enjoyed teasing him too much to end it anytime soon.
“You can’t resist me, Y/L/N” Draco yelled after her and watched how her hips swayed as she walked further and further away. That girl really knew how to ignite the fire inside him over and over again, but never stayed long enough to let it warm her. Draco smiled at the thought of chasing after her in the corridors and throwing her over his shoulder to her back to his room.
Insatiable habits
He was onto me, one look and I couldn't breathe
Yeah, I said, "If you kiss me
I might let it happen”
I swear on my life that I've been a good girl
Tonight, I don't wanna be her
Y/N was a good girl, always the first to submit her homework and the one who volunteered to tutor the younger witches and wizards when they had troubles with any of their classes. She liked to know all her assignments were complete and outstanding, searching for new information about the topics of their lessons to add to her essay and show her professors how determined she was about her studies. She was nice with everyone, she was the shoulder you could cry on even if you didn’t know her that well. She liked to help people and loved to make new friends. But she had a side that only a few people knew. She wasn’t that innocent little Hufflepuff girl like so many students would have thought. She was always up for a good party and flirt with boys. They were young after all. It was their time to live, to experiment, to fall in love and to make mistakes. She loved her life and wanted to live it fully. That was what Draco admired her. Her essence and the way she saw life. She was fun to be around, and hot to stare at. And he liked to watch every move she took.
“Like alchemy, Kabbalah isn’t one generalised study either, but several different branches. The two beaches that specifically have the most influence” she was trying to teach Draco  everything about their Alchemy class before their midterm test, but she rudely interrupted her.
“You gotta stop doing that” he said with a teasing tone. He was laying on his side on the bed, keeping himself up by his elbow while he was playing with the rings on his long fingers.
“What?” she asked with a confused expression and looked up from her notes. Draco wasn’t paying attention to her words, but the way her lips moved.
“Saying things that make me wanna kiss you” she annoyedly rolled her eyes and pushed Draco of her bed. She might tried to act cool, but she couldn’t hide the smile dancing on her lips and her eyes brightening up by the thought of kissing him.
——-
“See you tonight, Y/N?” Pansy Parkinson asked as she passed by in the corridor. It was Friday afternoon, and they just get out of their last class. The usual Friday Night Party was the topic of every conversation, which made Y/N rather annoyed. She found it weird that she wasn’t invited. The last four months, she was there. Draco always made sure she was invited and had her by his side the whole night. But this week, she wasn’t. She kept checking for little notes in her books where Draco doodled during classes or Study Halls, she reorganised her bag to see if he had slipped a piece of paper, but nothing. Maybe he didn’t want her there.
“I wasn’t invited” she shrugged and tried to hide her disappointment with a smile. The Parkinson girl laughed and hugged her by the side. They weren’t the best of friends, but it felt good for Pansy so have another girl in their group of friends, who was actually a lot like them. It was a nice change to be able to have girly chit chats with someone, who wouldn’t make gagging noises by topics like skin care, menstruation or clothes.
“Oh, bunny” she shook her head in amusement. Pansy found it funny how a bright witch like Y/L/N could be so stupid sometimes “You don’t need to be invited anymore. You’re one of us now, so when you hear about a party, just know that it’s your party too”
“Then I’ll see you tonight” Y/N smiled happily and quickly kissed Pansy on the cheek before she hurried back to the Hufflepuff tower to take a nap before the party. Her afternoon was a blur. After she woke up, she found Parkinson sitting on the floor beside her bed, drawing little butterflies and birds on a parchment. Pansy insisted that they get ready together to the party, because she needed some girly time and she was fed up with Enzo and Blaise making fun of her for taking too long to get ready. So the girls went to her dorm room and took a few shots of Fire Whiskey while they were doing each others hair and makeup. Y/N had a plan for the night. She was done with their little game, and wanted Draco to finally make the first move. She had been trying to make him do something that would move their relationship forward, but it seemed like the Slytherin Prince was more than happy with their current status. If Draco wasn’t man enough to make a move, then she will do it.
Her dress was perfect for her plan, and even Pansy drooled over her a bit when she saw Y/N coming out of the bathroom. The dress she chose was a simple black dress with think straps made out of diamonds and reached only down to the middle of her naked thighs. The fine satin fabric hugged her feminizing curves perfectly, the light fall of it on her chest and the slit of the dress on her thigh gave the whole look a slightly innocent, but teasing vibe. And everyone in the Slytherin Common Room agreed on that. Boys turned their head after her and tried to talk to Y/N, but the Hufflepuff had eyes only for a certain Slytherin, who was nowhere to be seen at the beginning of the night. She was tipsy and waited for the two more shots she took with Theo and Adrian to kick in and push her into another stage of drunk. All her insecurities, worries and boundaries were long gone, all thanks to the Fire Whiskey burning in her system. She was determined, she felt irresistible and she knew she had the boy in her palms. He just needed a little nudge, to finally make a move.
Draco Malfoy wasn’t the one who was easy to be amazed, but when he finally spot Y/N walking towards him, he almost choked on his drink. He had seen her in a jogger and sweater, with absolutely no makeup on and with messy hair, and he thought she was the cutest little thing ever. He had seen her in leggings and a workout top, with sweaty hair and face, and Draco felt motivated to go and workout too. He had seen her with a high pony tail and her school uniform, and he thought she was someone who could easily beat Granger at studying. But this was new. She never dolled up like this for a party. Her dress, the way her corrugated, tied up hair swung from left to right in perfect harmony with her hips made Draco to think about a lot of unholy things. She was a goddess in his eyes and he wanted to be the man by her side. His whole body, his heart and soul had been burning for Y/N for months, and he was getting impatient with their little game. He desperately wanted to take the next step, but he wasn’t completely sure if she was feeling the same way. Of course she flirted with him. They had their heated moments, where both of them were seconds away from crossing the line and kissing the other, but somehow, they managed to control themselves. Draco loved to replay their playful fights, their bickering that turned into heavy flirting and the secret glances and touches when he was in bed and tried to sleep. He loved to see the light blush in her cheeks when he complimented her hair, makeup or just her beauty or brain in general. He absolutely lived for the flame igniting in her beautiful eyes when he said something dirty and naughty to her during class or Study Hall. But he wasn’t brave enough to actually man up and ask her on a date. Or maybe to be his girlfriend. They were far too deep for basic things like first date, first kiss or anything like that bullshit. Their relationship was on a different kind of level, and he knew she was someone you just don’t want to lose.
“Hey, handsome” she greeted him from a few feet away. Draco knew Y/L/N and Parkinson were getting ready together, and the two witches pre gamed a little before they came downstairs. He also saw her taking shots with their friends, so he was sure she wasn’t completely sober anymore. Not drunk enough, to not know what she was doing or saying, but definitely not sober anymore to be shy “Haven’t seen you all almost all night. Here I thought you were ignoring me” she smirked at him and twirled the end of her hair around her finger, looking at Draco with tilted head to the side. She wanted to take a step forward, but he held out his hand to stop her.
“Take another step, and I can’t be responsible for my actions” he warned her, his blue eyes never leaving hers. He couldn’t take this anymore. They were playing a very dangerous game, and they were so close to hit their boiling spot. Y/N straightened up and started the play with the ring on her necklace. Draco gifted her his ring two weeks ago, after he got enough of her always stealing it from him while they studied together. Little did she knew, Draco meant it as a sign, that she was all his. He wanted the boys at Hogwarts to see she was wearing his ring and she only belong to him.
“Than maybe you should take a step” her voice was teasing but serious at the same time. She bit her bottom lip and pushed her hip to the side a little bit, showing Draco that she was waiting. It was all up to him. And he did. The sassy look on her face, the way she was biting her bottom lip and everything that had been building up in him for long weeks, gave him a final push and he said fuck it. He grabbed her and pulled her to his body. Their chests were pressed together, he could almost feel her heartbeat. She looked up at him, fire burning in her eyes “If you kiss me, I might let it happen”
Draco kissed her. He kissed her like he had never kissed anybody before. It was exactly like it was written in romance books and said in the films. They had butterflies raving in their stomachs. Fireworks behind closed eyes. Hands holding onto the other like their lives depended on it. Lips moving in perfect harmony. She was his. He was hers. After months of flirting, it was good to finally burn in their love.
“Just for the record, you’re mine” Draco said and rested his forehead on her. They were both breathing heavily, trying to catch breathe after the kiss. She giggled at his possessiveness and rolled her eyes at him. Of course he had to show who was the alpha “Oh, and this dress is coming off at the end of the night” he winked at her and pulled her face into another passionate kiss.

“Hey, Soph.” Rafe tried snapping her out of her thoughts as she mumbled to herself, trying to calculate her midterm grades. Sophie had been chewing on her lip for the past ten minutes, anxious about if she could pull off an A in two of her classes or if she could manage a B+ on her global history midterm. “Hm?” She mumbled, keeping her eyes tracked on her calculation in her notebook.
“You’re stressing me out.” He nudged her foot under the table, trying to get her to look up. They were alone in her architecture lab, late at night, and Rafe was mainly keeping her company, just doing some homework while she was working on a model. It was a typical spot for them on Thursday nights, if he wasn’t able to convince her to go out instead.
“Oh I’m sorry, you’re free to leave then.” She replied, tone dripping with sarcasm.
“Soph.” He tried catching her attention again, looking at her with a fond smile.
She glanced up with an apologetic look. “Sorry, didn’t mean it.”
“I know. Hey, let’s take a break, we’ve been here for five hours. What are you working on now?” Rafe came around and stood behind her, pulling her shoulders back to rub them.
She resisted for a second then let her head fall back, closing her eyes for a moment. “I’m figuring out my grades. I need at least an 84 on my global history midterm to pull it up, and I need a solid 87 on this model to keep my A in environmental studies, and an 88 on my other one to keep the A in programming, which is going to be fucking impossible, and -”
“You’ll be fine, baby, you’re a great student, you work hard. Take a break.” He urged, trying to tug her up out of her chair. She spun in the chair, looking up at him. “You don’t understand. I can’t, I still have at least 20 hours left on this one model.”
“You have a whole week -”
She scrunched up her nose in the familiar way she did when she was frustrated and Rafe had to resist grinning at her. He had made that mistake once, maybe twice, and she had just gotten pissed off that he wasn’t taking her seriously. “No, I have to get this portfolio perfect too. I’m applying to master’s programs next year and if I half-ass this project then it’ll show.”
He took her hands, tugging again to pull her up. “Soph, I love you, but you gotta stop putting so much pressure on yourself. Let’s take a break.”
I love you.
She froze and tuned out every single word after that, just blinking up at him.
“You what?”
“I said you need to stop putting -”
Sophie shook her head quickly. “No, before that. You said you loved me.”
Rafe raised his eyebrows, his arms going slack and he dropped her hands, exhaling slowly. “Oh. Did I?”
She spoke quickly, anxious, and grabbed one of his hands. “If you didn’t mean it that’s fine, I -”
“No!” He interrupted her and knelt down to her eye level in the chair. “I did! I do. I mean it.” He rubbed the back of his neck with his free hand, keeping eye contact and softened his voice a bit. “I love you.”
Sophie gave him a tight-lipped smile, clearly nervous. “Really? Me?”
“Of course you.” He grabbed the chair beside her and pulled it to sit, then rubbed his thumb back and forth over her hand, growing tense again. “I wish it hadn’t just slipped out like that, but I’d been meaning to tell you.” He paused. “I’ve known for a while now, I think.”
She finally came to her senses and pulled him in with both hands on either side of his face, giving him a deep kiss. He finally relaxed and smiled against her lips. “I...you’re my favorite, you know?” She grinned.
He nodded and did his best to hold back his disappointment, his heart pounding in his ears and all he could think was she didn’t say it back. “Yeah. Better be.”
She kissed him again, long and slow, then pulled back just enough to rest her forehead against his. “I, um...I can’t...” Sophie trailed off, hoping he’d get the hint.
Rafe cocked his head. “Can’t what?
She leaned away, biting her lip anxiously. “I can’t say it back. I’m sorry, it’s not like I don’t - I don’t know -”
His face fell for a moment but he recovered quickly, forcing a short smile. “Hey, hey.” He interrupted, cutting her off with a quick kiss. “I know. It’s okay. Let’s just... let’s go take a break. Walk around, move a little.”
“I don’t know, Rafe, I gotta finish this -”
“Not asking, angel.” He stood, tugging on her hands again. She gave him a wry smile, shaking her head. “You know what that does to me, not fair.” Rafe laughed and nodded. “I know. C’mon, I’ll drag you out of here if I have to. Ten minute walk and then I’ll let you work again.”
She laughed and stood, giving him a quick hug first. He caught her around the waist and wrapped his arms around her, tight. “Love you, Soph. You’re my girl, don’t forget it.” She only nodded, words on the tip of her tongue as she rested her head against his chest. “Hey Rafe?”
“What’s up?” He held her for a little while longer, smoothing his hand over her hair.
“I’m sorry.” She mumbled, not willing to look at him. She’d felt it coming from him for a while and had tried to prepare herself, but the weight of his words fell on her like a ton of bricks.
“You don’t need to apologize.” He kissed the top of her head, then let her go. “Come on, let’s go walk.” He cleared his throat. “Get your mind off of things.”
She didn’t need a translator to know what things meant.
-
Although every single instinct in Sophie was screaming at her to distance herself from Rafe for the next decade until he lost interest, she made herself continue to hang out with him like normal. She saw the way Rafe’s face dropped after she told him she couldn’t say it back and absolutely hated the way it made her feel - something that made her stop and think.
She’d never let herself get too attached in previous relationships, always being the one to break it off first. Usually she allowed herself a week-long maximum mourning period, then moved on to the next thing. The fact that Rafe even cared enough to say he loved her made her want to stay, to try, just for him.
Rafe was a little distant on his own part, trying not to get too upset with Sophie for not returning the sentiment. After all, he felt like he’d known since December - only two months into dating - and it didn’t feel right for him to say it then. He was a little hurt, but he’d also tried telling her at least twice already and chickened out. He just hoped she was feeling the same way.
_
Two weeks later, she snuck Rafe into the Theta house up the fire escape. She had just turned in her final project and declared a celebration was in order. He had the routine down by then - walk over, wait around the corner ‘til the coast was clear, hop the gate then come up the fire escape to the top floor. Allie and Julia were just leaving as he was climbing up the stairs, trying his best to keep quiet.
“Skip the fifteenth step.” Julia advised him as they watched him scale the stairs from the parking lot. Rafe paused, unable to place the voice in the dark and tucked a shoebox under his arm, not sure if he should hide or just run. “I’m not causing any trouble, I swear.” Allie laughed and shone her phone flashlight on him. “Just us, Cameron, we won’t tell.”
“Oh.” He laughed. “Is Soph up there waiting?”
“Yeah, will you convince her to come out with us tomorrow? She’s being lame.” Julia called out.
“I’ll do my best. Can you stop shining the light? I’m gonna get her in trouble.”
“Climb faster.” Allie teased as Sophie pushed open the door up top. “You two are the worst, you know that?” She called down, grinning as Rafe made it up.
“Yeah, yeah, you love us!” Julia yelled back, much louder than necessary. Sophie laughed and grabbed Rafe’s hand, pulling him down the hall and into her room quickly. “Are they gonna give me shit every time I come over?” He asked, smiling.
“Yeah, but it’s ‘cause they like you.” She raised her eyebrows. “What’s in the box?”
Rafe grinned, holding out the shoebox with a poorly-tied ribbon on top. “Made you something, to celebrate. Presentation isn’t quite there, but. It’s something.”
“Something.” She repeated, raising her eyebrows. Sophie took the box and untied the ribbon, then gasped when she opened it. “Rafe, you didn’t!” Inside were 7 cupcakes, haphazardly decorated with pink frosting - her favorite color.
He beamed, rocking back on his heels. “I hope they’re okay, I had to use the fancy ovens we have in the Delt kitchen. And it’s just from a box, but the box is normally okay, I think? James stole one - he didn’t know - but he thought it was good.”
She pulled out her phone to take a quick video of them first, then panned the video up to Rafe. He pushed her phone away with a grin, turning a little red. “It’s kind of cheesy, I guess. But. You deserve it. I’m proud of you.”
“God, I love you.” She breathed out, grinning ear to ear.
He paused for a moment, seeming to process, then came over and wrapped her in a tight hug. “You said it back.”
“I mean it.” She kissed him quickly, a blush on her cheeks. “Love you.”
“Love you too.” He replied, pressing his lips to her forehead. She giggled and reached up, swiping her thumb across his cheek. “You have dried frosting on your face.” He scowled but let her rub it away. “Pretty sure there’s flour in my hair too.”
“How’d you know I wanted cake?”
“You mentioned it last week when we watched Matilda, you said you wanted to celebrate with it when you finished finals. But more importantly, you love me back.” He grinned.
“I do.” She laughed. “I mean it, too. I love you.”
“I could hear you say that for ages.” He smiled, looking pleased. “I swear I’ll never get tired of it.”
“Careful what you wish for.” She teased and reached up to kiss him again.
Rafe laughed against her lips, then pulled away just to press his forehead against hers. “I’m glad you waited, you know. I didn’t want you to say it back just to say it.”
“You know I would have held out longer if I didn’t mean it.” She nudged her nose against his. “You’re still my favorite though.”
He beamed and nudged her nose back. “Always my favorite, Soph.”

"P'King!"
Sighing, he closed his eyes and sent the heavens a quick prayer for patience. Speak of the devil.
Rating: T
Warnings: mild swearing
Pairings: Ram/King; Bohn/Duen
King frowned as he checked his watch. What was taking Bohn so long? Surely the meeting with the professors hadn't run that late. He sighed and shot Mek a text.
K: I'm at the Gear Statue. Where are you guys? Is the case still being discussed?
M: Still outside the Dean's office. They're taking longer than expected. Might be more serious than we thought.
K: Damn. Still can't believe it was the archi department the nongs brawled with. We've always had a decent relationship with them.
M: Yeah. But don't worry, we haven't seen any sign of the med kid yet. We'll make sure Bohn doesn't run into him.
K: Thanks. Sorry for taking up your afternoon.
M: Bohn's our friend, it's nothing.
King pocketed his phone with a smile. Mek and Boss were far too good to them. He swung his bag onto his shoulder as he got up. He'd better go find the Year 1s now, or he'd be late for their tutoring session.
"P'King!"
Sighing, he closed his eyes and sent the heavens a quick prayer for patience. Speak of the devil. Opening his eyes, he found Duen standing in front of him, holding a bouquet of flowers.
"N'Duen," he said coldly.
Duen flinched slightly at his tone. "Ah, sorry to trouble you, P'King. Do you mind helping me pass this to P'Bohn? I didn't manage to find him this morning to pass them to him myself."
"Don't worry, you can consider the deal over. You needn't bother."
"But I want to," Duen replied slightly desperately. "I have to make it up for hurting him."
King let his eyes fall to the bouquet Duen clutched. Purple hyacinths were interspersed with daffodils, all enclosed within a ring of fresh snowdrops. He mentally catalogued the flowers - forgiveness, new beginnings, hope.
"And why should I pass this to Bohn?" he asked. "What are you expecting, N'Duen?"
"I...I..." began Duen, stammering. He took a deep breath. "I wish to court P'Bohn!"
King raised his eyebrows. "Oh? But I thought you found his attention... troublesome."
Duen flushed. "I didn't mean it that way! It's just... P'Bohn can be kind of forceful. And there are a lot of people who aren't happy about his attention being on me, so...um... they take it out on me. It's a bit scary sometimes," he admitted.
King felt himself soften slightly. He'd grown up with Bohn and knew first-hand just how aggressive he could get when he wanted something. That and people could get very ugly sometimes, especially when it came to matters of the heart.
No wonder the kid had reacted so strongly. The stress of being pushed around by Bohn and the others had slowly built until he'd finally exploded. Bohn had simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
"But are you willing to deal with this?" King pressed. "There will probably be many times in the future that situations like this occur again. Who's to say that you won't react the way you did again? I don't want to watch my best friend get hurt."
Duen considered the question carefully. "P'King, I cannot guarantee you that I will never hurt P'Bohn again. We are both human, and we will end up making mistakes, some of which will hurt each other."
"But I can promise you that I've had the week to think about this,” he continued. “And I'm sure that P'Bohn is worth the effort. The future may be uncertain, but I'm willing to apologise for the mistakes I've made and will end up making. And if P'Bohn will have me, I hope to stay by his side for a long time."
King searched Duen's face for the slightest hint of insincerity, finding none. And the fact was, the type of relationship Duen and Bohn had was between the two of them. He had no right to determine it. Caving, he took the bouquet.
"Fine. I'll help you pass this to Bohn. But- !" he said as a smile spread across Duen's face. "First you'll need to convince Bohn to accept you on your own. Then you'll have to convince me that you're a good match for him."
Duen nodded frantically. "Yes, P'King! Thank you for giving me a chance!"
King sighed, already beginning to regret the decision. "Alright, alright. Scram," he said, walking off to find the Year 1s.
"P'King, over here!" shouted Phu.
King raised his hand in acknowledgement and strode over to the group of Years 1s huddled together at a bench in the Engineering Faculty's garden.
"Hello nongs, I've heard that you need some help. Your midterms coming up?" he asked, leaning against the side of the table.
Phu nodded frantically. "Yes Phi, but we're all lost when it comes to indeterminate forms of limits and L'Hospital's rule."
"Ah. Yeah, it can be a bit tricky to wrap your head around at first. Let me see, we can work through an example together."
King spent the next ten minutes explaining the concepts, first to the entire group, then tailoring the explanation to suit the individuals who still couldn't fully grasp it. When he had satisfactorily cleared the theoretical doubts, he assigned the group a set of questions from the textbook to try applying what they had learnt.
After giving them five minutes to attempt the questions on their own, he began walking around, checking their work and offering corrections and guidance to those who needed it. As he pointed out a mistake to one of the students, he heard Phu call out.
"Ram! I saved you a seat. Hurry up, P'King has already started tutoring!"
King felt his heart rate pick up. What were the chances that this was some other 1st year engineering student also named Ram?
He felt more than saw someone settle down opposite the student he was helping. King's palms grew sweaty. Still torn between wanting to know and remaining ignorant of who exactly had joined them, he forced himself to focus on the worksheet.
When he finished pointing out the errors and could delay no further, he slowly straightened up. His eyes dragged across the books stacked on the table to muscular forearms encased in a crisp white shirt, travelling along the length of a slim black tie, before arriving at a familiar face.
King swallowed heavily as Ram looked up at him, expression carefully blank.
"Ah P'King, do you mind explaining the concepts again to Ram?" asked Phu. "Sorry he's late, I forgot to mention to you that he had a prior commitment."
King hastily turned to face Phu, grateful for the opportunity to look away. "No worries, Nong. I'll be right there."
He made his way over to Ram at snail-pace, desperately trying to prolong the time it took to reach his ill-fated crush. His heart was pounding so hard it felt like it was about to burst right out of his chest.
Finally reaching Ram's shoulder, King took a deep breath before speaking. "So, um, do you have any particular questions or do you want me to start from the top?"
Ram nodded sharply. King waited for Ram to clarify which of the two he was referring to but received no answer.
"You do understand Thai, right?" he asked carefully.
Ram gave another jerky nod. When no further reply came, King ran a hand through his hair. "From the top then, I assume. Turn your textbook to the chapter on indefinite limits, we'll start from there."
He muddled his way through the explanations, relying on Ram's nods and head shakes to gauge his understanding. Assigning Ram a couple of questions, he stepped back and took a few moments to collect himself.
Shit. Having to tutor his crush was pure torture. He had been hyper-aware of himself the entire time - every breath, every tiny motion he made, and even the volume of his voice. The stress of having to be near Ram was going to be the death of him.
"P'King," Phu called. "Ram's having difficulty with this question."
Pulling himself together, King braced a hand on the table and leaned over Ram's shoulder to study the problem. As he did so, he caught a whiff of Ram's cologne - a heady blend of musk, wood and leather. The scent hung seductively in the air.
King inhaled deeply, subtly trying to fill his lungs with it. Too distracted by the smell to concentrate on anything else, he stared at the paper blankly, not processing a single word.
Ram turned his head slightly to stare at his suddenly all-too-quiet senior. The movement caused his nose to lightly brush against King's cheek. The touch burnt like the white heat of a comet trail and yanked the senior back to the present.
King jerked away like he'd been stung.
"I...er...I forgot about a meeting. Gotta go now," he stammered, grabbing his bag and the bouquet from Duen off the bench. "N'Phu, send me a photo of the question. I'll get back to you later," he said before promptly fleeing, leaving the 1st year students staring after him in confusion.
Bohn stroked a smooth petal delicately. "What did you say the flowers meant again?"
"Forgiveness, new beginnings and hope," came King's muffled voice from where he'd buried his face in the mound of pillows littering Bohn's bed.
Bohn hid the smile that had slowly begun to spread across his face in the bouquet. "King, he went through the trouble of making an apology bouquet."
"Yay... lucky you..."
Bohn shot his friend a glare. "What's your problem? You've been like that for half an hour already."
"Don't remind me," King moaned, attempting to smother himself with the pillows. "Or better yet, just kill me now."
"You have five seconds to start talking before I come over there and make you talk," Bohn threatened. "Five. Four. Thre-"
King threw a pillow at him without looking. It bounced off the edge of the couch, nowhere near Bohn. Grabbing it, Bohn chucked it back at King, and unlike his friend, nailed him right in the head.
"Ow! Alright! He was part of the group I had to tutor today and then I went and fucked it all up with my stupid crush, happy?!"
"What did y- "
Bohn's phone pinged. Deciding to drop the subject for the moment, Bohn reached over and picked it up. Reading the message, he whooped and jumped on top of King.
"He asked me out! King, Duen asked me out!"
King lifted his head up with a groan and wheezed, "He did what now?"
"He asked me out!" yelled Bohn into his ear. "Our usual bar, tomorrow night at 9!"
"Ok, ok, I heard you now get off me," King pleaded, gasping for breath.
Bohn promptly rolled off him and moved to text Duen. King put an immediate stop to that by grabbing Bohn's arm.
"Wait, are you sure you want to accept? This is the same guy who rejected you a week ago that we're talking about."
Bohn raised an imperious eyebrow. "Of course I'm sure. I always get what I want."
King sighed and let Bohn get back to texting Duen. He pulled out his own phone. Like hell was he letting Bohn walk into this on his own.
K: Our resident idiot has decided to accept that kid's request for a date tomorrow
P: You serious? The same one he was avoiding at the fundraiser?
K: Yeah. A bouquet of flowers is all it took for that resolve to collapse like a house of cards.
P: What's the plan?
K: I'm gonna go with. No way in hell am I going to leave them alone till I'm sure of his intentions.
P: Text me the address and time, I'll be there
K: No way. You have your hazing trip the next morning. Are you not planning to sleep? You're not coming.
P: You're not my dad. And that's my problem. Besides, Bohn's given you the slip plenty of times. As long as he doesn't know I'm there, we can keep an eye on him.
K: Fine. The usual bar, 9pm. I'll let you know if there's a change of plans.
P: Got it

Senior Fear Ch. 4 - Heading Home
TAGS: (I’ve tagged anyone who followed my last multi-chapter Chris fic. Please let me know if you’d like to be removed.) @jared2612  @katurrade @annekebbphotography @emerald-bijou @jellybean-marshmellow
Kicking off my first day of @chrispowellappreciation by sharing my next chapter of Senior Fear. I’m so excited to share more with you all this week! Follow along with @maxattack-powell and @regrettingnathan and I during Chris Powell Appreciation Week! I can’t wait to see what you all submit!
This is a multi-chapter story about Autumn with the Hartfeld Gang. Halloween quickly approaching they attempt to celebrate. As they begin their senior year the dynamics will change like the weather, will they be able to face their fears, both commercial and literal?
NOTE: This is a fictional story based on Pixelberry’s Choices App. *Books The Freshman, The Sophomore, The Junior. I am not affiliated with Pixelberry nor do I own the rights to their original characters or story-lines. This story will alter certain story-lines.
Tumblr media
Three thick sweaters and he could still feel the cold chill of the autumn air, the brightest color of leaves had already left the trees, only the dying brown leaves remaining, and they were  hanging on by a thread. The dying plants paired with the chill in the air matched the exact feeling Chris had inside. The only reason he’d wanted to stay at Harteld over the weekend was because he dreaded this exact moment. He felt like everything was moving in slow motion watching MC load up the car with far more items then they had arrived with; a product of his mother wanting to send them all the supplies they might need.
MC made trip after trip in and out of the house, everytime she went back in Lily had something else to hand off to her. She wasn’t sure if Chris wanted or needed anything he wasn’t really here right now. She could see him and he was here physically but mentally he was zoned in on something else. This wasn’t the first tome MC had seen him this way. He’d focus his mind similarly before a big game, or an important final. After she loaded the final bag into the car she stepped beside him lacing her fingers through his own. She felt the gentle twitch as the touch knocked him out of his mindset.
“Hey.” Chris spoke with a breath turning his fixed gaze on hers.
MC offered him the smallest smile, she could feel how badly he wanted to stay. “Hey” she was searching his eyes to find him something to look forward to. “Are you ready?” she asked knowing he wasn’t. “We’ve gotta get back, we’ve got midterms to study for and a party to plan!” she added a cheery tone hoping it would help. “I’m going to go say goodbye to your mom, maybe you want to start thinking about talking to AJ?”
Chris nods releasing his hand from hers and turning on his feet back inside the house. His body language almost angry, but she knew he was only disappointed. Chris headed into the makeshift bedroom that his mother had created in the office on the main floor until AJ could walk up the stairs to her own again. “Hey, AJ.” he said staying strong behind his weak emotions. “MC and I are heading out soon.”
“Do you have too?” she didn’t look at him when she talked, she knew she’d cry. She was young but she understood her emotions and she didn’t want to be ashamed of them now.
“Yeah bug, I’ve got too.” he said kneeling down in front of her, “But you’ve got mom, and Kyle.” he added with a smile “And you get to miss a whole week of school!” he added trying to twist this into a positive. “MC and I we’ll be back for Thanksgiving, that's only two months away.” Chris continued to have a basic and saddening conversation with his young best friend before pulling her into a gentle hug
MC paced around the kitchen as Lily sat with her signature coffee cup staring at the young girl who was mostly family now.
“Worried about something?” Lily asks out of her calm demeanor.
“I mean… yeah.” MC laughed with nerves in her voice. Watching Lily pat the seat next to her MC quickly followed suit and sat beside her.
“Speak.” Lily instructed with a heart warming smile.
MC was almost compelled by the mother figure in the room, she told her everything now. “I’m worried about Chris, AJ means so much to him and we both know he lets sadness stay with him for too long.” she started while Lily was quick to respond
“The nice thing about my son is that while sadness is always with in him, his happiness is often much stronger. Give him something to look to and he’ll come around.”
MC nods knowing Lily is right, but that alone wasn’t what  was worrying her. “After college, what’d you do?” MC asks now
Lily looks to her lap now, “I dropped out of college, I followed Frank after his graduation and I moved here. I became a mother, and I’ve been working odd jobs to make ends meet ever since. Why do you ask MC?” she questions now.
“I don’t know what I want to do, where I want to go, but I know…” she holds her tongue nervous about speaking of her and Chris’s future to his mother,
“You know what?” Lily asks in the silence.
“Oh… I know.. I want Chris to be apart of whatever comes next. But I think that scares me. You see all my life I’ve been set up to go to college to learn, to build a career but I’ve never been set up to fall in love.” she admits blush forming on her face.
Lily smiles at the thought of it, “It comes out of nowhere doesn’t it?” Lily laughs. “A piece of motherly advice?” she asks the young daughter like girl before here.
“Sure!” MC smiles easgerly.
“It might be a bit bias here but you’re not the only one worried about the role love will have in you next year, when Chris and I spoke he was scared too...” she smirks admitting to having a similar conversation with her son the night before “But, this is the best kind of fear, because it’s mixed with the strongest of passions. Trust in your love, and yourselves. Be honest and trust him.” Lily takes MC hand gently. “We would be the lucky ones to have a girl like your join our family.” she adds watching MC’s face flush pink.
“Trust.” she repeats, she does trust Chris already but she knows trust will contiue to be a huge part of her life this year. She’d learned the hard way her junior year what dishonesty could do and she didn’t plan on making that mistake. It could have lost her Chris but he was better than her and he followed her threw her dumbest mistakes. “Thank Lily, and thanks for letting us come down for the weekend. He misses you guys.” MC lets her gaze fall on Chris whose now walking toward them.
“And we miss him” Lily answers quickly before reaching to hug her eldest son. “Drive safe, text me as soon as you get home” she demands.
“Of course” Chris answers staying in her embrace for a bit longer, he’d always been a family man and this moment would be no different.
As the two of them said their goodbyes MC offered again to drive, to let Chris sleep and rest for his week to come. The car ride was long but it allowed Chris to dream and to prepare for their months ahead. There wasn’t much conversation in the hours on the road. He leaned his head against the window and listened to MC’s quiet voice sing along to the mix of songs playing randomly from her phone. Life was so simple in this moment, but as the car parked back at Hartfeld reality would have to set back in. Arriving late in the evening on Monday night Chris trudged inside carrying his and MC’s bags while MC brought in the miscellaneous items Lily had sent them with. Upon entering the apartment they were both shocked as their tired eyes perked open.
“Oh my god…” MC smiled setting things down in the corner, she knew Abbie’s artistic handy work when she saw it. Their apartment opened to a livingroom that shared space with the kitchen, along the wall was a hand drawn tree complete with autumn leaves. The leaves blew in the drawn wind, which was really just swirls of color and pattern. Each leaf represented something. As MC stepped past Chris to get a closer look she reached her hands to him to bring him to her side. “Look… they’re memories.”
“Third day in the freshman dorm, Chris Powell ate my left overs. I was so angry I didn’t have a lunch to bring on my long day at class. But he ended up with food poisoning and with out him I would have been down for the count the entire first week of classes. I’m always gonna thank him for that.” -Abbie
“My favorite thing about MC is that she never wants people to be mean to one another, that she stops it the moment it starts happening. Even if it’s playful. As freshman I would mock Kaitlyn for never folding her clothes but MC was always quick to remind me that Kaitlyn’s choices were her own creative decision. I don’t know what I’d do with out her constant kindness.” - Tyler
“Chris and MC have always inspired me, they work through everything together and they know each others strengths and weaknesses as well as they know their own. They are so completely opposite from one another and yet they mold together so perfectly. I’m lucky to call myself their friend. Despite my jealousies in the past I wish them only the best and I miss them every day.” - James
“Look..” MC says pausing on the note from their former friend. “Even James has a leaf” she giggles. James had graduated almost two years ago, he’d stuck around to work at the school but after taking offers in Los Angeles he decided to move. They didn’t hear from him much anymore, but someone had made the effort to get this note from him. It meant a lot to her, and Chris too.
Chris looked around the room skipping over a few leaves with notes and memories attached. His eye caught by one that included a photo. It was of Zack and Chris on the Hartfeld Football feild. “Oh, I didn’t know he even had this photo.” Chris laughed calling MC to his side to read the note.
“The start of sophomore year, fresh off of my breakup, Chris found me out by the fields having a full on panic attack. I’d been so stressed about my love life during Freshman year I’d fallen behind, I still hadn’t really come to terms with the effects that coming out had on my relationship with my parents and I was already crushing on a new boy even though I knew I shouldn't. I was going absolutely crazy. He ditched all of his football friends to stay with me. He gave me advice I’ll live by for the rest of my life. He told me, to be unapologetic-ally me, to let life jerk me around if it hand to but to never change who am because of it. I came out of Sophomore year so much happier than before because I followed his advice. That night Chris and I talked for hours, and we’ve never talked that way really since. But I always know that, that version of Chris is there if I need him. I would never approve of anyone with MC except Chris, because Chris is the kindest and most passionate person I know. - Zack
“I didn’t even know about this…” MC said looking to her blue eyed lover. “Did this really happen?” she questioned knowing that Zack wouldn’t lie.
“Yeah, I was finishing up running a few plays with the guys when I saw him just outside the athletic buildings. I’m not sure what had him over there but I knew something was off. It was a Thursday night, Zack was usually by your side working on homework or watching a movie. He was a mess, just blubbering and talking endlessly. I think he just needed someone to listen you know…” Chris laughs off his embarrassment that this letter brought. He’d never liked being complimented. He didn’t think that kindness deserved compliment. That kindness should be expected from everyone and given to everyone.
MC laid her head on Chris’s shoulder reading again the letter her best friend had left for her boyfriend. “He’s right you know.” she speaks lacing her fingers through his. “You are the kindest and most passionate person.” she repeated the heart felt words on the paper cutout on the wall. “This room is a kindergarten arts and crafts project.” she laughs “But our friends did it for us because we mean something to them. You mean something to them. You give so much of yourself to us and we have all be lucky to be apart of your incredible life. Me most of all”
Chris looks down sheepishly trying to accept the compliment “MC, these memories arent just of me. They are for both of us, but there are some just for you. I try to put my best foot forward I try to be there when I’m needed but it doesn’t always work that way. You see, you’re the opposite you don’t try.. You do. You are always there always listening and always helping. You think it’s going unnoticed but it’s not. Take all of last year for instance. You jeopardized so much of yourself for all of us, to protect all of us.” Chris leaned down and kissed the top of her head following the art on the walls with his eyes. It didn’t stop in the living room it went down the hall in to their bedroom door.
MC pulled Chris by the arm walking down the hallways and opening their room. There was nothing out of place, the room looked spotless. Different then the way MC had left it. In the process of her packing MC had left clothes and homework everywhere. Looking at the room now, he friends had cleaned. It was all still there, but it was just piled nicely. On the bedside table there was a mix of Chris and MC’s favorite flowers with an envelope attached. Chris sat on the bed and pulled MC to his lap as she opened and read the letter.
“Dear Chistopher and MC Powell…” Mc stopped rolling her eyes and feeling Chris’s laughter in his chest. This letter was immediately recognized to be written by Zack. The friend who’d been pushing MC and Chris to marry since the end of freshman year. Ignoring the new change in her own last name she continued reading.
“No ones Senior year should start out as rocky as yours has. We decided to get together to celebrate you both. First we want to let you know that the Halloween Party has officially been taken off your hands. Kaitlyn’s been secretly planning it the whole time anyways. Secondly, we wanted you guys to know just how much you mean to us. Abbie created a mural of the fall season and we included all the memories. Fall will always remind me of Hartfeld and the memories we’ve made and will continue to make. There’s no need to thank us because we’ve done this in thanks to you both. We left you some flowers, because we know how much you both love them (yes Chris you too) MC you are lovelier than a rose, and Chris you are brighter than a daisy. Out little family would be nowhere without you both. This fall is for you guys, because you have both made the last three years for us.”
MC place the letter back on the bedside table. It was a short and sweet but it was enough. This was more than the welcome home she thought they deserved. She didn’t fear the end of the year anymore. She knew everyone would go their separate ways but they would all come back together through out the years. They had to. They were a family.
“Hey...” she spoke softly turning in Chris’s arms to look at his face, remembering the pain it had held over the weekend. “Welcome home.” she smiled
“Welcome home.” he responded softly feeling happy there next to her in the small space they had created together.

Departed Chap 1
This was originally on my ao3 but i’m impulse posting it here YEET (ima put all the chapters under #departed)
Ship: Slow burn Sprace
Warnings: Domestic Abuse mentions
It had been a long fucking day. Well, a long fucking week really between midterms and work at the Tae Kwon Do studio he instructed at, but today especially had dragged on and Spot Conlon was ready to take a hot shower and sleep. But of course, nothing was ever that simple. His evening plans were quickly squashed by the sound of weak knocking on his apartment door. Spot groaned and pulled himself up from his comfortable position on the couch, reluctantly unbolting the door and opening it. He was about to reprimand the person knocking for bothering him at eleven o’clock on a Friday night, but hastily shut his mouth when he took in the person in front of him.
“Race? What the fuck.” Spot said, his voice coming out a little louder than he meant it to. Antonio “Racetrack” Higgins, his best friend of five years, was standing outside his apartment door, nursing a bloody nose and several hand-shaped bruises on his exposed arms.
Race locked eyes with Spot, his gaze tired and annoyed, “Canya not raise your voice? My head hurts.” He mumbled, then shouldered past Spot and proceeded to kick off his shoes.
“Sorry,” Spot murmured, still trying to grasp the situation as Race gingerly laid himself on the couch, “But uh, you gonna tell me what happened?”
“No, I’ma sleep.” Race grunted.
“Racer, ya can’t just come to my apartment covered in bruises and blood and expect me not ta-”
“Sean, I know. I promise I’ll explain tomorrow, but I’m so exhausted and I really don’t wanna be awake right now.” Race said, his eyes already closed.
“Okay, but you are talkin’ tomorrow,” Spot said, finally moving away from the door, “Also, no sleep yet. Your face is bloody as fuck and you are not sleepin’ on my pillows like that.”
Race groaned and didn’t move, “Spottie…”
“Nope, c’mon, at least clean up,” Spot persisted, “You don’t even gotta get all the way up, just clean off ya face.”
There was a small pause and for a moment Spot wondered if Race had stubbornly started to fake sleep, then he heard a small, “Fine.”
Spot wet a paper towel in the kitchen sink, then quickly retrieved an extra pair of sweatpants from his bedroom.
“Here,” he said, handing both things to Race, who took them lying down, “Clean off and get changed, I’ll grab ya some blankets.”
Race didn’t reply and Spot watched for a moment as he pulled himself into a sitting position, wincing as he did so. He really did look like shit. Blood was covering the front of his shirt and there was a bruise on his jaw that Spot hadn’t seen before.
“Spot, I uhh, I appreciate you checkin’ me out, but could I have some privacy?” Race said, a tired smirk coloring his features.
“Oh,” Spot said, snapping out of his reverie, “Yeah, yeah sorry.”
He left to dig some sheets out of the hallway closet and was just gathering a pillow when he heard a small whimper then, “S-spottie? Couldya help?”
Spot turned to see Race with his jeans halfway off. The sweatpants were crumpled at his side.
“My chest is kinda, uh, bruised and my abilities ta move are compromised…” He continued, not making eye contact with Spot.
“Oh! Yeah, ‘course.” Spot said, making his way over to Race and sitting beside him. He carefully lifted Race’s legs into his lap and pulled off his pants off completely, then began to pull the sweatpants onto his legs.
When they reached his mid thighs, Race cleared his throat, “I can get ‘em from here.” He said, blushing slightly.
“Ya sure?” Spot asked as he watched Race struggle to pull them up farther, “Dude, lemme see your chest.”
Race paused his action, then swiftly pulled the sweatpants up the rest of the way, taking deep breaths after, presumably to stop the pain in his torso.
He paused for a moment, toying with the hem of his shirt before shaking his head, “My chest is fine, well, not entirely fine, but no ribs are broken. I checked. Can I please jus’ sleep?”
Spot sighed, “Fine, I’ll stop houndin’ ya.” He studied Race’s face for a moment longer before standing and grabbing a discarded sweatshirt from the chair nearest to him and handing it to Race.
“Here, so you don’t gotta wear a bloody ass shirt all night.” Race took it, but made no move to put it on, “If ya need anythin’ in the night, just shout. Night Race.”
“Night, Spot.”
XXX
The next morning, Spot woke up to the sound of the coffee maker turning on. He climbed out of bed and pulled on a pair of sweats. When he entered the kitchen, Race pulled another mug out of the cabinet.
“You’re movin’ around better,” Spot observed, noticing that Race had changed into the sweatshirt he had given him the night before.
Race only grunted in reply, busying himself in pouring coffee for the two of them. Once he was finished, he handed Spot a mug, then sat himself at the kitchen counter. Spot sat down across from him and worked on adding sugar to his cup.
Spot startled slightly when Race spoke quietly, “It’s never gotten this bad before. I mean, she’s always been harsh in her words and maybe a slap here or there, but she was drunk and I was annoyin’ her I guess and next thing I knew she was comin’ at me with a bottle and...” He trailed off, closing his eyes to compose himself.
Spot looked at him in shock. Race could only be talking about one person- his girlfriend, Melissa. They had been dating for a little over a year and at first, their relationship had seemed perfect. But then, Race would stop coming to group hang-outs, and when he did come, he seemed nervous. He would leave early and never seemed to participate as much as he used to. Spot had suspected this was Melissa’s doing for a while, but he never could have imagined it going this far and never brought it up. Though, given Race’s current condition, he wish he had.
Race continued, “I dunno what to do, Sean. I haven’t been able ta breathe in that relationship for a while, but now I’m suffocatin’.”
“Break up with her, you don’t gotta stay in that situation.” Spot said, softly.
Race looked up for the first time, fear evident in his eyes, “No! No I can’t-that would jus’ be..I mean she’d find me and- no I can’t.”
Spot’s eyes flicked down to Race’s hands, noticing for the first time that they were shaking. Race must have seen Spot looking, because he cleared his throat and gripped his mug tight enough to turn his knuckles white.
“Alright,” Spot sighed, “We can talk more about this later, alright?”
Race didn’t say anything, but he didn’t object, so Spot took that as a yes.
“Are ya hungry? I could make pancakes.” Spot suggested.
Race shrugged, then nodded, “With blueberries?”
Spot scoffed, “‘Course. It’s not like ya’d eat ‘em without.”
Race smiled slightly into his mug, “I hate how well ya know me.”
Spot chuckled lightly and said, “That’s jus’ the price of friendship, buddy,” before turning to his cabinets to get out the ingredients for the pancakes. It was mostly quiet for a few minutes while Spot cooked, save for the sound of their coffee mugs clinking and Race humming to himself. However, the comfortable quiet was interrupted by Race’s phone ringing.
“Shit,” Race muttered to himself.
“S’it Melissa?” Spot questioned, turning around to place the plate full of pancakes on the countertop.
“Yep,” Race said, distractedly. He sighed, then picked up the phone, standing up from his seat at the counter as he did so.
“Yeah?” Race said, meekly into the phone. Immediately, shouting could be heard from the other end of the phone and Spot watched in concern as Race flinched and drew his shoulders up to his ears, “I’m sorry- I said I’m sorry. No- I-I’m out right now. O-okay. Y-yeah. I’ll come back now. I- Melissa, no. I said I’d come-please.”
Spot could feel his heart break as he watched his best friend transform into a stuttering mess. After a few more seconds of Melissa’s audible shouting and Race trying to get a few words in, the call was ended. Race slumped back down in his chair and put his face in his hands.
“I’m not letting you go back there, Race.” Spot said, gently, yet firmly.
“I-” Race cut himself off as his voice cracked, and Spot was surprised to see his shoulders start shaking with what he presumed were tears. He’d only ever seen him cry once before, and they had both been drunk. He jumped into action when Race’s cries turned to sobs, quickly making his way around the counter so he could carefully rub a hand up and down his arm to ground him.
“I-I don’t know w-what ta do, Spottie,” Race choked out.
“We’ll figure this out, Racer, I promise.” Spot said, soothingly, although his heart was in his throat. It scared him to see his best friend breakdown like this.
“I’m scared,” Race whimpered.
“I know, I’m right here.”

You sighed in frustration as you reread the same question for the umpteenth time in the past hour.
Midterm season was here and so was everything that came with it: the stress, the endless nights without catching a wink of sleep, and the wish for it all to be over soon.
Your mind was reeling for the exam you had tomorrow, your stress levels reaching an all time high as you tried not to cry at the thought of failing. You had been studying nonstop for the past week but you felt like nothing was sinking in, no matter how hard you tried.
You were feeling ready to give up when you saw your phone light up with an incoming call.
It was your ever sweet boyfriend, Wonwoo.
“Hey.” You sighed as you picked up.
“What's wrong? You sound like you just rose from the dead. Are you still worried about that exam?”
You nodded before realizing that he couldn't see. You let out a little defeated “yeah” when you were able to find your voice. “I’m so sure I'm going to fail at this point. I keep reading it over and over again but I still don't get it!”
“Hold on, where are you?”
“At my place. Why are you asking?” You winced as the fingers you were running through your hair got caught in a knot. You really let yourself go since you were so busy with uni.
“Sit tight. I'm coming over.”
Your eyes widened. “What? Don't you have a schedule today?”
“Finished early. I'm leaving right now. See you soon! Love you, babe!”
He quickly hung up before you had a change to protest, causing you to pout. Having Wonwoo over would only be a distraction from the exam you should really be studying for!
True to his word though, he was knocking on your door just over half an hour later, just when you were finally getting back into the flow the practice test you were doing.
You grudgingly got up from your seat at the kitchen table and made your way to the door, finding a smiling Wonwoo behind it.
He was carrying a bag with him, and looked absolutely soft with his dark hair a slight mess and the round glasses perched on his nose.
“You look like a wreck.”
You rolled your eyes but laughed at his words, as you stepped aside to let him into your apartment.
He was right, of course. Your hair hadn't been brushed in two days, and you were walking around in your pajamas, with a blanket wrapped around you for you were feeling a little cold but were too lazy to grab a sweater from your room.
“But you still look beautiful, as always.” He quickly corrected himself.
He followed you to the kitchen and placed the bag on the counter.
“What's all this?” You asked as you watched him unload the content onto the counter.
There were several water bottles, some energy drinks, as well as ramen and several other snacks.
“Snacks, for a study break. I know all the stress is making you forget to eat properly.”
“Oh. Thank you!” You wrapped your arms around his waist and planted a soft kiss against his back.
You felt his body shake as he chuckled. “No need to thank me, silly. I'm just fulfilling my duties as the best boyfriend in the world.”
You snorted at that claim and pulled away from him in time to see him opening up two ramen bowls.
You went to go put some water in the kettle to boil, but were stopped.
“No, no. I'll take care of it. You go sit down and start studying again and I'll join you in a bit.”
You were about to protest, but before you could even open your mouth, he had dropped a peck on your lips. “Go on.”
You pouted as you made your way back to the table and say in front of your open book.
You tried to focus on what was written but couldn't do so. Even when Wonwoo had finished preparing the ramen and placed the cups in front of you, taking a seat beside you, you still had yet to finish a paragraph.
You folded your arms in front of you as you watched him eat a mouthful of noodles.
“So what time did your interview finish?” You asked.
He shook his head, setting down his cup. He swallowed before speaking. “Nope. No questions until you're done studying. I'm here right now and that's all that matters.”
“Fine.” you sighed, getting back to your book.
“Wait! Make sure you eat before it gets cold!” Wonwoo pointed his chopsticks to your steaming cup. When you sent a glare his way, he only smiled innocently. “Just making sure my girl eats.”
You couldn’t stay upset for long and began to eat your ramen while you read, much to Wonwoo’s content.
It was silent for a while, Wonwoo watching you study with a small smile on his lips, thinking how cute you were when you concentrated, your brows furrowing together and your lips pursing into a pout.
He was noticing, however, that you were getting more and more confused and frustrated as you worked.
“Is there anything I can help you with?” he leaned closer to you, his chin resting upon your shoulder as he read the problem you were working on. “This is economics right?”
You nodded. “Yeah. I’m really bad at math, so it takes me longer to figure out what to do.”
“Let me take a look.”
You pushed your book towards him, and he read the question over, biting his lip as he thought. He then looked over at what you had written in your notebook.
“Okay, I think I understand this. Pass me that pencil, I’ll help you out.”
As you gave him the pencil, you made sure to leave a kiss on his cheek. “Thank you.”
The minute your lips touched his cheek, he smiled, a blush tainting his face.
You spent the next couple of hours working through the problems together, and you found that your boyfriend was a really good tutor. It was a wonder why you hadn’t studied with him before. Perhaps it was due to him being busy, and his dorm to be a giant mess, seeing as he shared it with twelve other boys, but that didn’t matter right now. All that mattered was that he was here now, and you were finally understanding, and it felt amazing.
It felt like you were drowning and only know had reached the surface and could breathe again.
Everything made sense again.
You didn’t know how long you had been sitting there at the kitchen table, hunched over your books, but the clock was soon approaching midnight.
Wonwoo was the first to notice this, as he began getting texts from his members asking where he was.
“Oh no.” he frowned upon reading them. “I completely forgot we have an interview in the morning.”
“Oh okay. You can go, it’s fine. I’ll just continue studying.” You smiled at him, turning back to the problem you were working on.
“Oh no, you don’t. It’s midnight. You should go to sleep.”
“But I’m not ready for the exam! I still gotta go through everything one more time to make sure I understand!”
“You understand everything perfectly fine. If you go to bed too late, then you’ll feel terrible in the morning and won’t be in the right state of mind to do the exam.”
“But-”
You were interrupted by Wonwoo’s lips upon your own. “No buts! Your health and well-being should be your priority, no matter what.”
You slowly smiled at him. What did you do to deserve someone as caring as him? You reluctantly nodded at his words. “Okay.”
“That’s my girl.” he kissed you once more. “Let’s just finish this question and then that’s enough for tonight.”
You agreed and worked through the problem together with ease, it was coming easier to you the more you had practiced and in no time you were writing the last number and feeling quite proud of yourself.
Wonwoo helped you clean up and made sure you were in bed before leaving himself. He had planted several kisses on your face and assured that you were going to do amazing on your exam the next day, causing a permanent smile on your face as you tried to fall asleep.
The following morning, you found yourself with your heart pounding in your chest as you anxiously walked towards the building your exam was being held in, in just over ten minutes.
The nerves of the exam were definitely affecting you and you prayed that everything would work out okay. Your lip felt raw from the amount of times you had been gnawing at it in your anxious state.
It was as you were just outside the lecture hall that you saw your phone light up in your hand.
It was a snap from your boyfriend.
You quickly opened it up to see all the boys of Seventeen smiling at screen, in various stages of getting ready for their interview that was to happen in an hour. The caption read “GOOD LUCK ON YOUR EXAM!!!!!!!!” followed by a string of four leaved clovers.
The next snap was of only Wonwoo, looking all ready to go. This caption simply read “you’re going to do amazing! I love you!” followed by several hearts.
You couldn’t stop smiling, your own heart soaring at their kind thoughts.
With a deep breath, and newfound confidence, you entered the lecture hall, determined to pass that exam.
